Some 2,300 miles west of South America at the southeastern most point of the Polynesian Triangle in Oceania stands Rapa Nui. On this tiny spec of an island in the South Pacific Ocean up to 900 stone statue’s called ‘Maoi’s’ were carved out of the islands volcanic rock. Stood looking out over the islands these statues were said to represent chieftain or other important people and said to be charged with a spiritual essence called ‘mana’. The biggest mystery lies around the transportation of these statues to their final resting place or ‘Ahu’, the largest of which stood up to 10 meters high and weighed 82 tonnes!
