Some 2,300 miles west of South America, at the Southeastern most point of the Polynesian Triangle in Oceania, stands Rapa Nui. On this tiny island in the South Pacific Ocean, around 900 stone statues – called Moai – were carved out of the island’s volcanic rock. Stood looking out over the islands, these statues were said to represent a chieftain or other important people and said to be charged with the spiritual essence, Mana. The biggest mystery lies around the transportation of these statues to their final resting place, or Ahu, the largest of which stood almost 10 meters high and weighed 82 tonnes!
Inspired by these enigmatic figures, these stone Moai are just as awesome. Standing 1.5m in height and moulded from solid concrete, these statues are the perfect centre piece to represent your tribe and, true to form, are just as challenging to move!
